Privacy Policy
1. Overview
Identity Intelligence is an iOS application that aggregates and displays news and articles from selected publishers in the identity, biometrics, and secure documents sector. This Privacy Policy explains what data is collected, how it is used, and what rights you have.
We are committed to handling your data with care and in accordance with applicable data protection law, including the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (revFADP) and, where applicable, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
2. Data We Collect
2.1 The App
No user accounts
The app does not require registration. We do not collect your name, email address, or any other personal information directly within the app. The app contains no advertising and no third-party analytics or tracking software.
iCloud Sync (CloudKit)
If you are signed in to iCloud on your device, the app uses Apple's CloudKit service to synchronise your settings, reading preferences, bookmarks, and read status across your devices. This data is stored in your personal iCloud account and is not accessible to us. Apple's privacy policy governs the handling of this data: apple.com/legal/privacy.
Purchases
Subscriptions and purchases are processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive your payment details or your Apple ID. The app only checks on your device whether a valid subscription exists.
Loading news
The app downloads news feeds directly from the publishers' websites. As with any internet request, the publisher's server receives your device's IP address. We have no influence over the publishers' processing; their own privacy policies apply.
App usage counting
When the app is opened or brought back to the foreground while your device is online, it sends a short request without any content to our server at id-intelligence.app. The app transmits no identifier, no settings and no information about what you read. The request is used solely to count how many devices use the app per day, for internal reporting purposes. The data recorded is:
- The date, and the time of the first and last request on that date
- The number of requests on that date
- A one-way, keyed hash of your IP address (not the IP address itself)
Repeated requests from the same IP address on the same day are counted once. This data is not linked to your identity and is not used to identify you personally.
Article links
When you open an article from within the app, the link is routed through our endpoint at id-intelligence.app/out/ before redirecting you to the publisher's website. This is used solely to count the number of clicks per publisher for internal reporting purposes. The data recorded is:
- Timestamp of the click
- Publisher identifier (e.g. "biometric-update")
- Destination URL of the article
- A one-way, keyed hash of your IP address (not the IP address itself)
- Device type information (User Agent string)
This data is not linked to your identity and is not used to identify you personally.
2.2 The Website (id-intelligence.app)
No cookies
Our website does not use cookies and does not use third-party analytics or advertising services.
Page view counting
When you open our home page, a short request records the visit for internal reporting. The data recorded is:
- Timestamp of the visit
- The domain of the website that referred you (if any)
- Country, derived from your IP address
- Device category (mobile or desktop)
- A one-way, keyed hash of your IP address (not the IP address itself)
To determine the country, your IP address is sent at the moment of the visit to the external geolocation service ip-api.com, which returns only the country. The service may process the request outside Switzerland and the EU, including in the USA. We do not store the IP address itself.
App Store link
When you follow the App Store link on our website, the click is routed through id-intelligence.app/out/ and recorded in the same way as article links (timestamp, a one-way, keyed hash of your IP address, User Agent string).
Beta programme sign-up
If you sign up for the beta programme via the form on our website, we store your first name, your last name (if provided), your email address and whether you are interested in beta testing. We send you one email to confirm your address; unconfirmed entries are discarded after 48 hours. We use your details solely to contact you about the app and the beta programme. They are not shared with third parties.
Server logs
Our web server automatically records standard access logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited, timestamp) for security and operational purposes. These logs are retained for a maximum of 30 days and are not used for profiling.

4. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties, except:
- Apple Inc. — for iCloud/CloudKit sync and App Store purchases, governed by Apple's own privacy policy
- Our hosting provider — server infrastructure only, no access to app data
- ip-api.com — country lookup for website visits only (see section 2.2); the IP address is transmitted, nothing is stored by us beyond the country
- Legal obligation — if required by law or court order

6. Your Rights
Under applicable data protection law, you have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of personal data we hold about you
- Correction — request correction of inaccurate data
- Deletion — request deletion of your data
- Withdrawal of consent — withdraw consent at any time (e.g. for the beta programme sign-up)
- Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interest
Because app usage, click and page view records contain only a hashed IP address, we can generally not attribute them to a specific person.

7. Children
The app is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The current version is always available at id-intelligence.app/privacy.html. The date at the top shows when it was last changed, and material changes are summarised below.
Changes in October 2026
- New: app usage counting (section 2.1), which counts how many devices use the app per day
- Added: information on purchases and on loading news directly from publishers (section 2.1)
- Corrected: the website counts page views and App Store link clicks (section 2.2); the previous statement that no tracking technologies are used was imprecise
- Added: country lookup via ip-api.com (sections 2.2 and 4)
- Updated: the former waitlist is now the beta programme sign-up; the data stored is listed in full (section 2.2)
- Updated: legal basis and retention tables (sections 3 and 5)
